Obituary of Linda June Millard
Our Mom, Linda June Millard, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023 with us by her side.
Mom was born on January 24, 1950 in the Melville area and spent her childhood there on the family farms until she moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan where she obtained her Bachelor of Education.
Mom absolutely loved teaching and children, and thought there was so much to learn from the next generation. Mom taught in several towns in Saskatchewan and then moved to Swift Current, where she met our Dad. They lived in Swift Current and then Outlook before moving to Saskatoon. Mom started teaching in the Sask. Valley School Division and shortly thereafter started a family.
In the early 1990s, Mom moved into school administration, and was the principal at schools in Martensville and Warman prior to her (early) retirement in 2000. After retirement, Mom filled her days with curling, cards, walks in the park, gardening, tutoring with Saskatoon Public Schools, and visits with family and friends. She enjoyed travel and made sure to do it often, with her last big trip being to Iceland in the Fall of 2019 with a group of old friends.
Mom raised each of us to be strong and independent. Mom told us to not take life (or ourselves) so seriously, and always emphasized the importance of showing grace and kindness to others and ourselves.
Mom was predeceased by her parents (Dorothy and Edward Waldbauer), her brother (Myron Waldbauer), and our Dad (Mac Millard).
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren (Joel Millard; Brenna Millard, John, Jude and Ellis Shelling; and Kaeleigh, Chris, Roger and Miriam Kuzma), her brother Brian Waldbauer and his family, her sister Norma Waldbauer, extended family and many, many friends.
Since Mom’s first diagnosis in 2018, her philosophy was that she was living with cancer, rather than fighting it or dying from it. When Mom decided to stop treatments in November, she said this last chapter would be a beautiful time saying goodbye to family and friends. And it was. Mom did not want a funeral and so in remembrance, we ask that you go outside and think of her.
