It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Ross Ritcey, 71, of Colpton announce his passing on Saturday, April 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy, brave battle with cancer.
Born in Lunenburg, he was raised in Riverport during the heyday of the Fisheries.
Michael was known for his love of the outdoors and his legendary fishing and hunting stories. Many memories were made on the rivers of Nova Scotia at his favorite fishing holes. He also loved camping trips with friends and family. Michael spent his younger years fishing aboard various vessels. He managed the operations of the family owned Ovens Park. The years he spent at the Ovens were his most happy, fulfilling years of work. “Mike” will be remembered not only by all the young people who worked summers there but by the campers who came back year after year. Until his recent retirement, due to his illness, he ran his successful painting business, Ritcey Painting Contractors.
Michael was the son of the late Ross and Catherine (Corkum) Ritcey. Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by his sister, Mary (John) Chappell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Michael is survived by his wife, Sharon (Zinck), daughter Lorianne (Troy) White, Fall River, son Jeff (Melissa), Rose Bay and cherished grandchildren, Miah, Maggie,
Ben and Jack White, Joseph and Sam Ritcey.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A private family graveside service will be held in Shephard’s Hill Cemetery, Riverport on June 3rd with a public reception to be held at the Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the South Shore Regional Hospital Auxiliary (90 Glen Allan Drive, Bridgewater, NS B4V 3S6) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Michael lived a life rich with great friends and family.
The world was a kinder, better place with him in it.
