It is with heavy
hearts that the family of Ronald Edward Kerton ‘Ron»
announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on April
27th, 2024. Ron was born and lived his entire
life in Fredericton. He was a son of the late Ben & Jean
(Humble) Kerton. He was predeceased by his brother John &
Sister Gloria Shipp
Ron worked for the
City of Fredericton Public Works Department for 35 years before his
retirement, and then he went to work at the Northside Walmart as a
Greeter, a job he loved. He considered the employees there his
extended family.
Ron is survived by
his wife Marilyn, daughters Destiny Davidson, Rebecca Davidson,
Rosemary Thompson (Calvin) and son Jason Davidson (Laurie) sisters
Marie Kerton, Joan Saunders, Judy Banks (Irvine) and brother Richard.
Grandchildren: Kyle Thompson (Paige) Courtney Thompson (Brayden) Cal
Thompson, Mady Thompson, Ashley Davidson, Alex Davidson, Faith Harvey,
Issac Davidson, Arianna Davidson, Kallum Davidson, Trystan Davidson,
several nieces and nephews and his chosen daughter Elizabeth Carr
(Adam) He will be missed by his fur babies’
«Boots» and
«Trouble»
Ron was a gentle
kind man who loved his family & friends deeply. He was a
social butterfly who enjoyed meeting people and telling stories (or
tall tales) Ron would drop whatever he was doing to lend a hand to
someone in need, always putting others
first.
He was a proud
member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 and Barkers Point Lions
Club Member. The only Remembrance Day service he missed was last
November when he was hospitalized but was there in spirit, the service
was recorded, and he watched it from his hospital bed. He could be
found early each morning with his Northside Tim Horton’s
Coffee Buddies. Ron loved country music, especially Johnny Cash, going
for drives, animals, and children. He has numerous costumes that he
wore to amuse children while working as a Walmart Greeter, Easter
Bunny, Clown, Santa, Santa’s Elf and a Leprechaun to name a
few. Ron enjoyed volunteering at the Veteran’s Hospital,
Legion, Bingos, Tim Horton’s Camp Days, Fredericton Red
Wings, Harvest Jazz & Blues, Legion Poppy Campaign and
assisted in many other fundraisers. In his younger years he was a
volunteer firefighter for the City of Fredericton. Ron was a
Barker’s Point Block Parent, volunteered as a trail patrol
member to help keep our walking trails safe & was often out
walking on them meeting people as Ron loved to socialize everywhere he
went. The word «NO» was not in Ron’s vocabulary as
he tried to lend a hand whenever he was needed. He has left a huge
void in the Fredericton
Community.
His family would
like to extend their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Extra
Mural Program, the staff & nurses of 4SE/3E the palliative
care team & so many doctors over the past year as Ron
underwent treatment for his cancer which was diagnosed as rare and
aggressive. Dr. Hickey, Dr. Acker, Dr Stephen Pond, Dr. Ross Kenny,
Dr. MacDonald, Dr Goodyear, Dr. Doyle, Dr. Anan, Dr. Chase, Dr. Marr,
Dr. Collins, Dr. Rosa, Dr. Popelli, Dr. Myles, Dr. MacKenzie, Dr.
Rideout, and all the other doctors in the ER which we visited
frequently. These Doctors were all amazing, upfront & honest
with their diagnosis & support. They went above &
beyond to help Ron and to put up with Marilyn and her never ending
questions, ideas, suggestions & comments such as» are you
sure?» & «have you tried this?» She was often
told to stay away from Drs. Internet &
Google.
As per
Ron’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. However, a
celebration of Ron’s life will take place at
Bishop’s Funeral Home & Crematorium 540 Woodstock
Road on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024, from 1-4PM. In
lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to Bishop’s Funeral
Home to assist with the funeral expenses, or to the Canadian Cancer
Society.
Bishops Funeral
Home & Crematorium 540 Woodstock Road have been entrusted with
the arrangements. The
