Our dear, sweet mother passed away peacefully on Thursday April 18, 2024 at Scarborough General Hospital at the age of 89.
Geraldine (Gerry) Louisa, daughter of the late William and Gladys (nee Harrison) Leyland was predeceased by her husband of 60 years James Raymond Donnelly. She was also predeceased by her daughter Karen (Dave) and great grandchild Hudson, and her brother Gordon (Dorothy).
Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma will be missed and always loved by her surviving children Keith (Joanne), Colleen (Tom), Helen (Dominic), Gerald (Linda) and Kevin (Sharon). Cherished by her 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her brothers Buster (Alma) and Barry (Cynthia).
Mom was proud of all her children and loved to tell her caregivers about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved and missed her Donnelly cottage, ‘The Hideout’ on Calumet Island, Quebec where she and Dad often drove for hours to try and spot the deer. They also visited many cemeteries for Mom to do research for her genealogy. They had many visitors that came to visit and ask about their own families. On the weekends she loved going to yard sales.
In her later years Mom enjoyed doing her word search puzzles, reading and playing scrabble.
Many thanks to the nurses and caregivers at the Guildwood Parkway residence that Mom called home for the last five and a half years, and to her last roommate Bernadette who played many scrabble games with Mom and helped her with so many little things.
The Angels are now looking over her!
There will be no visitation. As were Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place.
A private family gathering and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
