On Thursday March 21st, 2024, Maria Fedchak (born Rubner), passed away at the West Parry Sound Health Centre in Parry Sound, Ontario. Aged 88, she was a beloved mother, Oma, sibling and friend. Mother to Danny and Natalie and cherished Oma to Nicholas, Andrew, and Victoria, she will reside in our hearts forever. Maria was predeceased by her parents Joseph Rubner and Natalia Bartsch, her first husband Andrew Fedchak, as well as her beloved husband, David Stuart.
Living a full life, Maria was born in what was then the Region of Sudetenland, in the former Czechoslovakia. She experienced the Second World War in Germany and its associated hardships of poverty and refugee camps during her early years. At the age of 19, on her own, she bravely made her way across the ocean by boat from Germany to Toronto in the hopes of creating a better life for herself; that which she truly accomplished. There she married her late husband Andrew Fedchak and started her family.
In the last few decades of her life, Maria met, befriended, and then married her late husband David Stuart, and together they built their dream house on Moffat Lake, in the small township of McKellar, Ontario. Maria was able to reside in this home until the end of her life. Maria and David’s strong companionship and varied endeavours together sets the example that it is never too late to find love and fulfill your dreams.
Despite her health challenges, Maria displayed great personal strength until the end of her life. This was in large part due to the wonderful PSWs, nurses, hospital staff, pharmacy employees, and doctors. Additionally, we want to thank the kind volunteers that provided her with grocery shopping services, service pet visits, and drives to doctors’ appointments, as well as the neighbours that happily delivered her mail and dropped by for coffee and a chat, and her relatives and friends who cared for and connected with Maria in her later years. She had an extremely supportive community, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Maria will be forever remembered for her hospitable nature to all who visited her, her charismatic personality and her tasty home cooked food which was adored by many.
Any donations on behalf of Maria can be given to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation and will be greatly appreciated.
In accordance with Maria’s wishes, she is being cremated and no funeral will be held. She will be memorialized at Lakeview Cemetery in McKellar, Ontario, alongside her late husband David Stuart.
