Glenys Tencer (Née Scargill)
Glenys passed away peacefully in Saint John, New Brunswick, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, surrounded by her family and her dear caregiver Lana Richard. She was the cherished mother to Elyce (Danny Minogue), and to son Kenneth (Esther Mamane). She was adored by her grandchildren Marc, Sara, Laura, Tommy, Sofia and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband David (2014) and parents Raymond and Catherine Scargill.
Glenys was born and raised in Yorkshire, England with her two brothers Peter and Barry (both deceased) and her sister Carole. She moved to Canada in her early 20s and lived in Westmount, Quebec and later in St Andrews, New Brunswick with her husband of thirty-seven years (plus nine years of courting!). She was a skilled calligrapher. In her early years, she was an international model and later worked with Montreal doctors to help start Cybermetics Laboratories. She also enjoyed cooking and maintained a spectacular English Garden.
If you look up “Grandma” in the dictionary, you would find Nana’s picture. A trip to Nana’s house undoubtedly meant a bowl of the best chicken and matzah ball soup this side of the Atlantic. Nana, much like her home, was immaculate and one might say that she was ready to greet the Queen at moments notice.
We will remember her as a stately, elegant, warm-hearted woman who was steadfastly devoted to her family.
Graveside service on Wednesday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 1250 chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, Quebec. The family will be receiving visitors after the service.
