Lorna Louise Gale Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce that Lorna Louise Gale (nee MacIsaac) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on March 20th, 2024, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 71 years.
Lorna will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous heart, passion for life and her wonderful sense of humour. She was caring, clever, and filled with knowledge. She openly shared that her greatest accomplishments involved her children and that her husband, Brian, was her biggest supporter, gave sound advice and was her inspiration for life. Her fondest memories were spending quality time with her family and friends. She was an avid quilter and walker. A lover of life and new experiences, Lorna, at the age of 62, picked up a guitar and dedicated the last 10 years to learning as much as she could. She loved spending time at the cabin and found peace sitting on the beach listening to the waves.
Lorna was born and raised in Tompkins, NL. Lorna and Brian grew up in the same community and didn’t realize they were meant for each other until their college years. They married in 1973. She graduated from Western Memorial Regional Hospital School of Nursing with her Registered Nursing Degree and later earned her Community Health Diploma. She worked as a Community Health/Public Health Nurse in Lourdes and Stephenville, NL. Lorna and Brian settled in Port au Port East where they raised their three children. Lorna and Brian moved to Edmonton for a short period of time, but their home and hearts remained in Port au Port. They moved back to enjoy their «retirement», renovated an old farmhouse in Great Codroy, and ran a craft shop for several years. They split most of their time traveling between their home in Port au Port, their cabin at Searston beach, and visiting their children in Alberta.
Lorna will be sadly missed by: her husband Brian; children: Jeff (Rochelle) Gale, Mark Gale, and Megan (Chris) Verlinde; her grandchildren: Halle Gale, Evan Gale, and Alexandria Verlinde; siblings: Aggie MacIsaac, Peggy Reid, Joan (Rick) Matthews, John (Sharon) MacIsaac, Pat MacIsaac, Mike (Dorothy) MacIsaac, Rick (Tanya) MacIsaac, and Selma (Harry) Kilpatrick; and brother-in-law Melvin (Colleen) Gale; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many beloved friends.
She was predeceased by: her parents Richard and Monica MacIsaac; brother Andrew MacIsaac; parents-in-law Walter and Kay Gale; and brothers-in-law: Francis Gale, Kevin Gale, and Tom Reid.
We will gather to pray and celebrate the life of Lorna at Maria Regina Parish on Sunday, March 24th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will take place on Monday, March 25th at 1:00 pm. At Lorna’s request, cremation has taken place and her remains will be laid to rest at a later date with her family.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations in Lorna’s memory may be made to the Twilight 50+ club (Port au Port East), the Daffodil Place, or to a charity of one’s choice.
Even in the end, Lorna found a way to smile, laugh, and express her love for life and family. She wanted to thank her family, friends, and many coworkers who had supported her over the years. Lorna’s family would like to thank the staff at both Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Stephenville Hospital for their efforts, respect, care, and support over the last two months.
