Robin Blaine Hussey Obituary
Following a lengthy battle with cancer, Robin “Blaine” Hussey passed peacefully away with his loving family by his side at the Western Long Term Care Home, Corner Brook, NL on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 at the age of 66 years.
Born on Bell Island, Blaine moved to Cambridge, Ontario as a child. He received a Masters degree in Environmental Biology and then taught at the University of Guelph. He then worked for many years in the agricultural industry in Canada and the United States. He decided to move back to Newfoundland because of his love for the province and continued to work in the agricultural field. He finally published his two volume set and addendum of his family history after 30 years of extensive travel and research.
His family is very grateful for this beautiful legacy.
Blaine was a very intelligent and kind man. One could not help but be attracted to his marvelous personality. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, storytelling, and positive attitude. Nick-named “the friendly giant” by many, he made a profound impact on others with his generous spirit and bright smile.
He will be fondly remembered by: his wife Miranda O’Connor; brother Bill (Karen) Hussey; sister Donna (Frank MacDonald; parents-in-law Reginald and Betty O’Connor; brother-in-law Dale O’Connor (Caroline Moskalyk); sister-in-law Colleen (Jason) Benoit; godchild Emily Mercer; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many friends. Blaine will also be dearly missed by his best friend Bob Saccomano and special family friend George Shaw.
He was predeceased by: father William “Bill” Edgar Hussey (1921-1999); mother Athelie (nee Cobb) Hussey (1930-2022); and brother-in-law Vincent Edward Scott (1968-2021).
Following his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy donations in Blaine’s memory may be made to the Daffodil Place.
The family would like to thank all of the healthcare professionals who cared for Blaine: Dr. Ada, Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital; Dr. Joy McCarthy and Dr. Frank O’Dea, and the terrific nurses from 5 North B, Health Sciences Centre; Dr. Kate Lafferty and her team at the Palliative Care unit in Corner Brook. Thank you for the tremendous kindness, support and compassion provided to Blaine. We are forever grateful. A special thank you to Len Benoit for the wonderful care he provided to Blaine while in his care. A very special thank you to Valerie and Kenny Burke. Words cannot express our gratitude for all your help.
Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
