Cindy Linda Mae Clarke (nee Butz) passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Ken Clarke Jr; children, Chris Clarke (Ciara McIlwaine) and Janelle Clarke (Ryan Ewart); grandchildren, Thian, Tynan, Tristan and Magdalena; and her grand fur-baby Ford. Cindy is also survived by her brother, Fred Butz (Gail); aunt, Alice Hertzog; mother-in-law, Kathleen Clarke; brothers-in-law, Randy Clarke (Sandra) and Greg Clarke (Kristine); and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cindy was born in Calgary, AB on May 4, 1956, and moved with her parents to Regina, SK as a child. Throughout her youth, Cindy played softball, basketball, and 5-pin bowling, eventually meeting her future husband, Ken, through the 5-pin bowling community. She graduated from Scott Collegiate and began working as a legal assistant to Ian McKay, KC for over 40 years until her retirement in 2017. She kept in touch with many former co-workers and colleagues, continuing to have lunches and coffee dates even after her retirement.
Cindy and Ken married on July 31, 1976. They welcomed two children into the world: Christopher Joseph Clarke on August 28, 1979, and Janelle Frances Clarke on July 22, 1983. Cindy particularly relished the fact that her daughter, Janelle, and her sister, Corea shared the same birthday.
As an adult, Cindy continued to enjoy 5-pin bowling for many years. Chris and Janelle also grew up playing 5-pin bowling and Cindy, Ken, Chris, and Janelle formed countless friendships through their involvement with the Regina 5-pin bowling community. Cindy was keenly interested in genealogy, having a particular interest in her family’s connection to the Waterton Lakes National Park and surrounding area – where her parents first met, and her mother grew up. She also enjoyed puzzles of all kinds, including jigsaw puzzles, sudoku and crosswords.
Cindy also enjoyed travelling, including a particularly memorable road trip with Ken and the kids to Disney Land in 1993, numerous trips to BC to visit Ken’s extended family, visits to the historic Northland Lodge in Waterton Lakes National Park, and several trips to Mexico and Hawaii. Cindy and Ken developed many more lasting friendships during these trips.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Alan Blair Cancer Centre, the Palliative Care Home Care team, and the staff at Grace Hospice for their care of Cindy throughout.
