Ron has passed peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital after a short but fierce battle with a rare melanoma. Remembered with love by Jane, predeceased by mother and father Mildred and Kenneth Raine of London, Ontario. Cherished brother to Barbara Stein and Terry and loved by nieces and nephew, family and friends.
Ron had a strong work ethic from a young age. His first paid job was with the London Free Press, moving on from there to Lapowich Market and Butcher shop, all while going to school and training for football. He did achieve his dream of playing football during his university career in the 1970’s. Completing his teaching degree he then taught elementary school in Northumberland County. On the side he built swimming pools, roofed and made decks. His final working years were at Horizon Plastics as their traffic manager.
Throughout his life, team sports filled his spare time. It was where he built his closest friendships. Football, lacrosse, hockey, baseball golf and fishing were his favourites.
From his early days in the Lapowich Butcher Shop and caring for his younger sister, Ron has loved to cook. Influenced by Chef Michael Smith , cooking became one of his favourite past times. Jane, her friends and pets were always well cared for and his beautiful meals were much appreciated.
Thank you to the Stewart family for their generosity and kindness and for adding some travel and adventure to his life.
And finally thank you to Dr. Mule’ and his palliative team both within the hospital and the community.
Ron will be missed. May he rest in peace.
Family and friends are invited to Kelly’s Home Like Inn in Cobourg on Ron’s Birthday Thursday, April 25th, 2024 from 4 to 8PM to share stories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ron to a charity of your choice.
