Leata Maxine Bannon (nee McNevan)
July 27, 1929 – February 01, 2023
Crossed safely into the arms of Jesus on February 01, 2023. Cherished mother and “Nan” of her children Robert (Krista), his daughter Tanya (Mark) Manns, Susan (Edmund) Merkley, their children Nicholas (Sara Warden), Matthew (Maxine Ethier), Jessica; Fred, his children Caitlin, Caleb (Patsy), Mahalia & Matthew (Stephanie) Brown. She was a loving great-grandmother to Laura, Abbey, Brennan and Colin Manns; Benjamin, Neve, Wynne, Maddox, Maxwell & Maelle Merkley; Ella, Eva & Meila Bannon; Luke & Callie Brown. Predeceased by her mother and father, Margaret Jean McNevan & David McNevan, her husband Dalton Bannon and by her siblings & their spouses Glenn (Alma) McNevan, Phyliss Marlene (Jetty) Thompson, brothers-in-law Norman Godfrey & George Moore. Fondly remembered by her brother Douglas & sister-in-law Thelma McNevan & sisters June Godfrey, Carolie Moore & sister-in-law Linda Uniacke (nee Bannon). Leata is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Leata’s greatest passions were her family; caring for others at the Smiths Falls Public Hospital and Broadview Long Term Care during her nursing career; and playing music for her own enjoyment or with various fiddling groups. She had a wonderful zest for life; never missing an opportunity to attend a parade, a fair, the theatre, a musical event, skating, hockey games or anything that involved her grandchildren. Leata was an active member of Trinity United Church in Smiths Falls. She sang in the choir, was a CGIT leader and was a member of the UCW.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Forest Hill Long Term Care.
Interment has already taken place and a private family service has been held. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home. Online condolences available at www.lannin.ca
