Obituary of Judy Sorestad
Judith (Judy) Marie Spangler-Trent- Sorestad was born May 20,1948, to Bob & Charlene Spangler. She was the oldest of six children. The early days of life were spent in the Marshfield, Indiana area. Schools attended include Marshfield, West Lebanon, Seeger Memorial, and Lafayette Jefferson High School, with graduation in 1996.
When Judy was fourteen years old, her beloved Mother died in childbirth. At the age nineteen, she married Raymond Trent. Four years later, their daughter, Myra Charlene, made her grand entrance into their lives. Three years later, Judy became a widow. After living in Lafayette, Indiana, for a while, Judy & Myra relocated to Valdosta, Georgia. After residing there for nearly ten years, Judy & Myra made a big move to Canada. She married George Sorestad, a Buchanan Saskatchewan farmer. A year later, Neil Edward completed the family unit.
Throughout the years, Judy has had various jobs. She enjoyed positions in the restaurant business as a grill cook, waitress, cashier, and supervisor. Another favorite position was that of teacher’s aide at Lowndes County High School, in Valdosta, Georgia. It was a job she found very rewarding.
In the earlier years, Judy was active in the Home Economics Club, ELW, and the church worship committee. She worked on the church bus ministry and served as a Sunday School and Mission Friends teacher. In addition to singing in the choir, Judy directed the Cherub Choir. In later years, she sang a duet with her friend, Shirley. For several years, Judy played piano/organ for two churches, as well as accompanying singers and the choir, playing for weddings and funerals.
Great enjoyment was found in reading books, her favorite being mysteries. When she wasn’t reading, Judy was writing articles, stories, and poetry, some of which have been published. She has also written columns for three papers. In addition to her passion for writing, she had a great love for music. Also, keeping in touch with her friends and relatives was very important to Judy, who enjoyed writing letters. She also enjoyed interaction with ten pen pals. Another delight in her senior years was keeping in touch with her friends and relatives on Facebook. The light of her life would have to be her granddaughters, Kelci and Kendall.
Judy is predeceased by her parents, Bob and Charlene Spangler; step-mother, Vernnia Spangler; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bob Roberts; brother, Carl Spangler; step-brother,Arthur See; first husband, Raymond Trent; and infant brother and three miscarried babies.
She is survived by her husband, George; daughter and son -in-law, Myra and Dallas Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Jamie Sorestad; granddaughters, Kelci and Kendall Sorestad; sister, Kathy Conn; brother, Alan (Jerry) Spangler, step-brother, Jim (Deb) Meek; step-sister, Nora Rice; as well as aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
Judy’s family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team at St. Boniface Hospital for the loving care that they provided Judy in the last month of her life. There are not enough words to express our gratitude.
It was Judy’s wish that there be no funeral.
