Paul Jules Charette
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Jules Charette on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Paul was born in St. Malo, Manitoba on December 18, 1936, to Francios and Adelard Charette. He was the third of 10 children: Edward, Claire, Donald, Florence, Frank, Marie, Doreen, Irene and John. He left school at an early age to help support their large family, working in the bush and doing odd jobs to make a living.
In May 1956 he married our mother, Lorraine Lebleu. Together they had seven children, Larry (Yvonne), Gail, Robert (Donna), Ronald (predeceased in 2004), Denis, Bonnie (Chris) and Kenny (Angela). Paul went ahead to Alberta in the 1970’s to start his career as a welder and then sent for his family. Although Paul and Lorraine shared a great love they did divorce; their love and respect remained until Lorraine‘s death in 2021.
Paul worked in the oil patch until his early ‘60s, deciding then to retire and spend more time with his family. Those were the years he became closest with his children, after having worked away so much. He loved being a hands-on grandpa, taking the younger grandkids for sleepovers, feeding them pizza and treats, all the things that he couldn’t do when his kids were small. In retirement, he drove his motorcycle, bicycled, enjoyed walks and kept himself fit. He had a special lady in his life. Her name was Irene and they had 15 years of going on trips and enjoying each other’s company. They shared a love of music, and he had started to learn to play the guitar and fiddle. Her health began to decline, and she was moved to supportive living a few years ago. Paul loved his family and was sharp until the end. He lived in assisted-living where they took great care of him. We are thankful he had as much independence as he could.
On January 24th, his health took a sudden turn, and he passed in a very short time. He was surrounded by loved ones, who held hands with him as he took his last breath. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support. He had a fulfilled 87 years, and we are comforted that he is free of pain. We love you, Dad!
A Celebration of life is being planned for the Spring. More details to come.
