Susan Johnston Droniuk
May 24, 1957 – January 18, 2024
I am deeply saddened to announce that Susan Johnston Droniuk, lovingly surrounded by family, passed away peacefully in Oakville in her 67th year after battling the debilitating disease Neurofibromatosis type 2 for 30 years.
A native of Saint John, NB, Susan was predeceased by her parents Maurice and Mildred. Her sister Karen and husband Gordon Dunham still live in NB. Susan is survived by her adoring husband of 40 years Randal Droniuk. The Droniuk in-laws will be heart broken: Larry (Sandy), Lisa Crotty as well as Corey, Claire and James (Crotty).
Susan loved the adventure of life to its fullest. Her life-long constant goal was always education. Growing up on her grandfather’s farm, Susan made her mother proud to achieve what she could not. She graduated from Macdonald College McGill and U of T and applied her learning and energy to eventually become a vice president at TD Bank. She shared her good fortune and helped financially support young people in her life to succeed at their goals. A life-long dog-lover, she sponsored the training of many hearing ear service dogs at the Dog Guides school in Oakville. Susan’s spirit never left the farm of her youth as she was one of a group of enthusiastic gardeners on Tweedsdale Cres as well as meeting new friends across Canada & the US (alias “Woody Oak”). Her life experiences and extensive reading made her an intelligent, thoughtful and funny companion. Friends and family will all continue to treasure how she never stopped giving so much of herself to us even through the difficult years of constant health challenges. She lost her hearing at age 40 and hoped that no one else should have to endure this barrier to communicating with the world around us.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later time in the Spring. Forward condolences through Kopriva Taylor. Thank you to Dr. May for his compassion at end of life and all the doctors in Toronto and Oakville for their efforts and support through the years. If friends desire, tributes can be made in memory of Susan to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides or to the Royal Botanical Gardens of Canada (Burlington).
