Peacefully, on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Irving Avrich. Adored mother and mother-in-law of Cindy and Leon Wahler, Barry Avrich and Melissa Manly. Cherished grandmother of Sloan Avrich and Joshua Wahler. Predeceased by her parents, Sadie and Louis Garellek. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Al and the late Yetta Garellek, the late Jack and the late Rose Garellek, the late Manny Garellek, the late Sam and the late Frances Garellek.
Faye was a selfless and elegant woman who loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She was an artist herself and a culture vulture who cherished the theatre, concerts, museums and traveling. Faye loved entertaining and could never understand why anyone would choose a restaurant over a homecooked meal, specifically her homecooked meals. There was no trip she took to Toronto that didn’t come with 110 tins of carefully labeled precious baked goods. Faye was devoted to her charity work her entire life – from active participation in the B’nai Brith to Meals on Wheels and Hope & Cope. She never missed an opportunity to help others: from caring for strangers, to her brothers and her family. Faye will be remembered for her devout sense of family, the enduring special friendships she enjoyed, and her loyalty. She was loved by her children, adored, and admired by her grandchildren, and by many nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom will miss her love, support, and baking. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the selfless care provided by Dr. Loraine Mazzella-Maiolo, Dr. Gerson Frisch, and by Lucy, Shani, Camella, and Roee, as well as by Faye’s endlessly devoted niece, Shelley Garellek Mann. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, January 14 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at the King George Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva private.
