Vernon Wayne Hornseth – July 29, 1944 – January 7, 2024.
Wayne was born to Clifford and Verna Hornseth in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, where he grew up on the family farm. While he loved life on the farm and was an active 4H club member, he also had an early passion for flying. Wayne got both his pilot’s and driver’s licenses on his 16th birthday. His first flying job was as a flight instructor in Prince Albert, SK. Always looking for bigger planes and added challenges, Wayne moved to Winnipeg and flew the DC3 for TransAir. There, he gained experience flying in the high Arctic. Wayne later moved to Ottawa to work for Transport Canada, including VIP transport. He took pride in flying Prime Ministers and other dignitaries. In 1980, Wayne moved to Caledon and accepted his favourite job – flying for Wardair. He made some lifelong friends while flying the DC-10, B747, and A310. Years later, Wayne took his flying career overseas. He retired in 2004 from Singapore Airlines on the B747-400. After retirement, Wayne returned to his farming roots by growing apples in the Okanogan Valley. Later, he moved to Orangeville to be closer to his family. Wayne was predeceased by his sister Myrna Dmyterko and is survived by his children Andrew (Pam) and Megan (Brett), their mother Margot, and grandchildren Ryan and Kyra. He is also survived by his sister Audrey Laycock and brother Len Hornseth.
