Obituary
The family of Molly Anne Forster is deeply saddened by the passing of their beloved Molly Anne on January 5, 2024.
Born Molly Anne Dingle in November of 1933, in Edmonton, Molly Anne was the older sister to Marilyn (Thorndycraft) and Dani (Mashford). The three Dingle sisters grew up in Edmonton, across the street from the Alberta Legislature, and spent many treasured childhood moments playing together on the Legislature grounds. The girls also spent many happy childhood times at their Grandmother Eliza Higgins’ farm in Athabasca, where they loved to ride their favourite horse, Dude. They later moved to a small but welcoming home on 97th Street, where they lived for many years. Marilyn currently lives in Florida, and Dani, sadly, passed away in 2021.
Molly Anne’s father, Earl Dingle, worked for Manulife Insurance and was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, curling, golf, and hockey. Earl loved his daughters and made a point of taking each of them out for special father-daughter lunches, which was a treasured memory of Molly Anne’s. Molly Anne lost her father when she was in her early twenties. Molly Anne’s mother, also nicknamed Molly, was a stay-at-home mother who looked after the three girls and the household, volunteered with the IODE and Meals on Wheels, and sold Avon products. Dearly loved by all her family, Molly Anne’s mother passed away in 1993.
After graduating from Victoria Composite High School, Molly Anne worked at Imperial Oil. It was during this time that she met her husband, Jim Forster. Jim worked with his father, Bill, and brother, Fred, for Bennett and White Construction and Apex Gravel. Jim and Molly Anne got married at Knox Metropolitan Church on June 23, 1956, and raised a daughter, Darci, and a son, Jay. During their childhood years Molly Anne looked after the kids, and also found time to volunteer for various causes such as the Junior League, Festival of Trees, Commonwealth Games, Universiade Games, and others.
Together, Molly Anne and Jim were very active members of Mayfair Golf Club, and both loved to play the game. Molly Anne loved giving Jim the gears about her two hole-in-ones, whereas he only managed to get one! They were both active in the Kinsmen and Kinette clubs, Rio Terrace Moravian Church, and were very active volunteers in their children’s school activities, chaperoning many school dances and band excursions at Jasper Place High School. Molly Anne and Jim also enjoyed the role of loving grandparents to grandchildren Berkley, Mason, Joel, and Lauren, and dog parents to their precious “Buddy,” who quickly endeared himself to all who met him. They also loved to travel, and spent much time enjoying their second home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Sadly, Molly Anne lost her beloved Jim in 2013.
Molly Anne lived and thrived in the Edmonton Touchmark Community for the past 10 years. She enjoyed living in her bungalow with her precious Buddy, hosting many family gatherings. As Molly Anne’s needs changed, she was able to relocate within Touchmark to an independent living apartment and then to the Sapphire Memory Care neighborhood. In her final days, the staff worked tirelessly to ensure that she was kept comfortable, both physically and emotionally, at all times. For these efforts the family is eternally grateful.
Molly Anne was always a kind, loving, and caring person, with great compassion for others. In recent years she could often be seen trying to help, cheer up, or just befriend others living around her at Touchmark, and she was deeply loved by her family and all who came to know her.
The family has decided to forego a public Funeral and will be having a Private Celebration of Life in the future. In lieu of sending flowers to the Forster family, we would prefer that you send them to one of your own loved ones.
Arrangements entrusted to Foster & McGarvey Downtown Funeral Home.
