Obituary
SWAINE, Ivy Pauline – 97, Roseway Manor, Shelburne, formerly of Shag Harbour, passed away at the Manor on January 4, 2024, with several family members at her bedside. Born in Woods Harbour, February 26, 1926, she the daughter of Jeremiah and Ella (Smith) Nickerson. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Elnathan and Leona Smith of Lower Shag Harbour. Following their marriage in 1947, she and her husband, Merle, ran a small convenience store in Lower Shag Harbour for 30 years. She was a member of the Guiding Light Baptist Church, Shag Harbour. Ivy enjoyed knitting, quilting, and over the years filled many scrapbooks with local newspaper clippings, with the finishing number being 52 while she was at the Manor. She also spent many hours researching the genealogy of the Smith, Cunningham, and Nickerson families. She is survived by daughter, Linda, Yarmouth; sons, Kevin (Wanda), Darrell (Sarah), both of Shag Harbour; grandchildren, Lisa Helin, Carla Moulaison-Hurlburt, Jeffery and Jeremy Moulaison, Julie Muise, Shawn and Troy d’Entremont, David, Travis, Danny, and Trevor Swaine; 22 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Crystal Nickerson; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and grandparents, she was predeceased by her husband, Merle; daughter, Rosalie; brothers, Mervin, Irwin, Glendon; sister, Norma Dugas; and her Uncle Wilbert Smith (Bibbie), who always lived with her family until his passing in 1968. There will be a visitation Tuesday, 7-9 pm, at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, where the funeral service will also be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2 pm with Rev. Don Scheel officiating. Interment to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shag Harbour. Memorial donations may be made to Guiding Light Baptist Church, Roseway Manor, or a charity of choice.
