Reverend Paul Douglas Putman
Born in Hamilton to Kenneth and Marion Putman on December 3rd, 1951, Paul studied his love of music at Wilfred Laurier University and theology at Emmanuel College at the University of Toronto.
With the United Church of Canada, he served as a minister in communities in the Canadian Maritimes, Panama, and Ontario before retirement from Port Hope United Church. He was an active Rotarian, served on the Port Hope Cemetery Board, and enjoyed travel and reading.
After decades of struggle with mental illness, he passed away peacefully in Whitby on December 25th, 2023. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Fairview Lodge’s Dementia Care Unit.
Paul leaves behind his daughter Erin Oxland, son Evan Oxland (Chelsea Boida), their mother Deb Oxland, and his grandson Jack. He will be remembered by his brothers Tom (Marion), Bob (Debbie), and Ken (Carol), his nieces and nephew, and great-nieces.
There will be a memorial service at 11am on January 2, 2024, at Port Hope United Church, followed by a private internment.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health would be welcome.
