David Kavanagh, also known as DK, passed away peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre on Sunday Dec 24, 2023, at the age of seventy.
Beloved husband of Cathy for 35 years, cherished brother of Judy (Dan Pierre), Mary (deceased), Stephen (deceased) and son of Doris and Thomas Kavanagh (deceased).
Dave was a runner, having completed 7 marathons. He had a love of camping and the outdoors. His passions were Amos the dog and his 1974 Triumph motorcycle. He became a connoisseur of beer and was happy to share his knowledge. He had a love of music, played the guitar and had a beautiful voice. Dave was proud of and meticulously maintained his home in Orangeville.
Born in Montreal and raised in Rosemere, Quebec, he developed a love for swimming and became a lifeguard. He was honoured for his quick response in saving a young girl’s life. David continued as a lifeguard and graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in Physical Education. He moved to Ottawa, maintained his love of sports throughout his life, passing it on to both friends and family.
David gave back to his community by volunteering, along with Cathy, at the Orangeville Rib Fest and later the Blues and Jazz Festival.
He will be greatly missed by other relatives and many friends.
A special thanks Dr. Akula and her staff, Dr. Faria, Dr. Sasaki, and the nursing staff at Headwaters Health Care Centre.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre 21 First Street, Orangeville, Ontario, on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Memorial donations to the Headwaters Health Care Centre, 100 Rolling Hills Dr, Orangeville, would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of David in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 22nd Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
