JAMES RALPH GENGE (January 5, 1948 – December 24, 2023)
It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the sudden passing of our dear brother, James Ralph Genge, of Glovertown, on December 24, 2023.
Jim is predeceased by his parents Clarence and Marguerite Genge, grandparents Roland and Priscilla Genge, Edmund and Mildred Ralph, and baby sister Janice, as well as his Aunt Irene and Uncle Bert Genge, who he was very close to.
He leaves to mourn his brothers Eddie(Barb) and Graham( Toni), his sisters Joan(Everett), Rosalind(Denis) and Sandra(Chris). He also leaves his nieces and nephews Lesley, Kerry, Lee, Janice, Sherry, Heidi, Ginger, Joey, Riley and Alexander.
Jim learned a long time ago the key to happiness was in giving, and lived his life accordingly without wavering. He gave everything – whether it be bakeapples or partridgeberries he picked, trout that he caught and smoked, potatoes he grew, or tomatoes that he had planted and tended carefully. He gave to family and friends alike, his reward being the happiness that his gifts bestowed on his recipients.
He spent over 40 seasons working on the sawmill and loved every minute of it. He always took great pride in his work and the quality of the lumber produced.
Jim thoroughly enjoyed nature – in particular having a cup of tea in the woods with his friends, and loved berry-picking, especially bakeapples. His resourcefulness enabled him to live off the land in almost every way possible. He loved reading and his emails were never without imagery and always interesting.
He had a great love for music, especially for that of bygone days and, in addition to playing the guitar and banjo, he was an ace on the mandolin- playing old jigs and reels with an expertise that left people wanting more.
He never wanted material things but was content with the little he had. He was always grateful and had a wonderful outlook on life that was an inspiration to us all. He valued his friends who dropped in daily to see him.
Jim masterfully played the hand he was dealt in life to live to the fullest and on his own terms.
His truly was a life well lived.
The family is especially grateful to all of Jim’s close friends and neighbours, especially Roy and Brian Smart, Dave Feltham, Dave Crewe, Dave Saunders Sr., Marilyn Sweetapple, cousins Norm Genge and Ruby Penney, and many others.
As per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive visitors at Oram’s Funeral Home, Glovertown, and funeral service will take place at St. Edward’s Anglican Church, Glovertown South, date and time to be announced.
As Jim’s church and church family meant a great deal to him, donations in his memory can be made to: St. Edward’s Anglican Church Glovertown. E-transfers can be sent to: anglicanchurchglovertown@gmail.com.
