Joan Charlotte Mabel Latour (nee Rowley) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love, on Monday December 18th, 2023.
Beloved wife of Dennis Latour.
Cherished daughter of the late Ivan and Mabel Rowley. Survived by her brother Stewart Rowley. Predeceased by her sister Marie Stonehouse, and their half-sibling Marion Ferguson.
A love story began in 1971 from a chance happening between a young nursing graduate of Oshawa General and a Parry Sound local boy, while spending a «girls weekend» camping at Killbear Provincial Park. This meeting led to a loving marriage of 51 years, 38 year nursing career, establishment of several cherished friendships, and no less than devotion to their children Angela and her husband Kirk Reid, Chris and his wife Izabela Latour; grandchildren Katelyn and Justin Reid, Olivia and Gabe Latour. In their children’s youth the branding «Family Affair» became an enduring motto. It extended through her lifestyle and enjoyment of the Bay(s); Island time with regular summer retreats to the cottage and winters at Anna Maria Island chasing the warm elements. Her love of swimming and feeling the water over her face, and watching a sunset over the water. Boating and driving fulfilled her excitement of travel and exploration. We learned from her saying «Why are you not coming? Your choice, but you will be missing out on some fun!» that she would be right! Joan enjoyed people, conversation, and a good time.

Joan had a personal fancy for nice purses-bags and fine pens. Enjoyed soul moving Buffy Saint Marie; no was not a response to invitations to dance with her. Her grand- children’s inspiration & shenanigans kept her youthful. Each day she would choose a new word to use, a result of a crossword or a good read close by. This made her a serious competitor in a Scrabble game. Her interest in building and renovation plans were proudly accomplished in partnership with Dennis. She said a house you build but a home you make, and that goes anywhere. You did it! making a wonderful life and home!
As was Joan’s wish; cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the Torrance Funeral Home (705) 746-4664, 89 Bowes Street Parry Sound. A Celebration of Life will take place in the Chapel on Saturday January 6, 2024 from 1 – 5 PM. Short Funeral Service at 1:30 PM.

Family extend their heartfelt appreciation for the incredibly caring hands of Pam Andersen; RN Care Coordinator, Dr. Katherine Knight, Dr. Leigh Davis, Dr. Dan Honsinger, Nurses Joanne Swackhamer and Monika Harrison-Waefler, and Arlene Hicks; PSW. Thank you to Larry Freeman and Steve Torrance for your supportive guidance. You all became a part of our «Family Affair». Gratitude to the exceptional individuals of Sudbury Health Sciences North -North East Cancer Center and Neurosurgery, Parry Sound -North East Home and Community Care Support Services, the EMS Community Paramedicine, and Staff of West Parry Sound Health Centre. Thank you to those special lady nurse-friends who were there as cheerleaders and with support.
As expressions of sympathy, donations would be appreciated to the North East Cancer Centre (in care of Dr. A. Wolf for brain cancer research), Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer, or West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation – Emergency Department.
