Dale Albert Grant – 77, Hopewell, Pictou County,
passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Colchester East
Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Hopewell, he was a son of the late Albert and Violet
(Watts) Grant. Dale has one brother, Freeman Grant, Lyons Brook; sons,
John Grant, Richard Grant, David Grant. Along with his parents, he was
predeceased by the mother of John, Richard and David.
During his younger years Dale could be found working on his
parent’s dairy farm and he would often say that working on
the farm for some 15 years back then taught him the meaning of hard
labour.
As a young man Dale left home and took on the career of truck
driving and traveled throughout Canada and the United States. Over the
years he was employed by Feit Trucking, King Freight Lines, Earl
German Trucking and Leo Crain, all trucking companies within Pictou
County.
Dale had many stories to tell about his trucking days and as
long as you were willing to listen, Dale was willing to keep you
entertained.
He was often told he should have gone to Hollywood and become
an actor as he was not only good at telling the stories, but he was a
high profile entertainer acting out any story he told and one could
not help themselves but to have a good laugh.
For those who really knew Dale, he was a character of his own
making and his life as a child and young man taught him to be tough
and weather the storms in life and to press on and never give up and
to make the best of each day you have here on earth. He would often
say «I came into this world with nothing, and I will be leaving
with nothing. I did my best and that’s all a man can
do».
Dale wanted to truly thank all the nursing staff, doctors,
social workers and paramedics from the Colchester East Hants Health
Centre and Truro area (in his words) «for putting up with him and
being so good to him». Also thank you for the kindness shown to
him by Rev. Catherine Crooks of First United Church, Truro; to Ann
Nichols and her family for their kindness shown to Dale, and to his
friend, Cheyanne Bernard.
Graveside interment service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday,
December 28, 2023, in St. Columba Cemetery, Hopewell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
