Charles «Charlie» Rice Obituary
It is with saddened hearts that the family of Charles «Charlie» Albert Rice of Bonnyville, Alberta announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the age of 81 years.
Charles is lovingly survived by his wife of 60 years: Nancy Rice; children: Terri Toews (Keith), Jackie Rice (Steve Dockrell); grandchildren: Chantelle Zerr (Brendan), Keith Toews (Vicki); treasured great grandchildren: Addison Zerr, Booker Zerr; brothers: Richard, Bruce, David, Brian, Terry, Carl, Chris; sister: Yvonne.
Charles was predeceased by his parents: John & Doris Rice; brothers: Howard, Arthur; sisters: Pauline, Sylvia.
Born in Wirrel New Brunswick, Charles joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he proudly served for 27 years in various locations, family in tow. Upon retiring he and his wife Nancy chose to put down roots in the Bonnyville area where he could enjoy his favorite fishing spots in pursuit of the big one, which always “just barely got away”. He had a life long curiosity and love of nature and the outdoors which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was a quiet man with an immense love for his family (and fishing at Moose Lake) and he will always be missed with equal measure.
The family would like to thank the emergency department and the second-floor staff of the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre, most notably Carmen, and Dr. Cadrin for the compassion and excellent care Charles received in his last days.
Most importantly the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Charles’ family physician, Dr. Steyn. There are no words to express the difference his kindness and dedication made to Charles and his family.
As per Charles’ request, there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place.
