It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Beverly Dougherty, 87, of Toronto, ON, on Sunday, December 10th, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, surrounded by her family.
Beverly was born on December 20, 1935 to Michael and Mary Tuohy in Montreal. She grew up in the Park Extension neighborhood there surrounded by a large extended family of siblings and cousins, with frequent trips made to «Uncle Campbells farm» in the Eastern Townships for holidays and family celebrations. In the mid-1950’s her work at Goodyear took her to Toronto, where she met her husband-to-be, Alan. They married in 1957, settled in Mimico and soon had 2 children, Maureen and Michael. At the same time they founded Etobicoke Cartage, and for the next three decades Mom’s prodigious ambition and drive were directed equally at raising her children and making a success out of the company. After Dad’s untimely death in 1995 and with the company wound down, Mom set out on her second career as Bookkeeper and later Office Manager of the United Senior Citizens of Ontario (USCO). For close to 30 years she immersed herself in these duties, supporting the elected leadership of the organization in their activities to educate, support and advocate for seniors across the province with all levels of government. Over the decades Mom made many friends throughout the USCO and treasured this social interaction as well as the help and support she received in her work. Her efforts culminated with her receiving the USCO Senior of the Year Award in 2021.
Beverly was a loving wife and mother, and an amazing role model who could always be counted on when needed. She was loved by her family and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children Maureen (Wally) and Michael; her two grandchildren Chris (Emily) and Cate (Kevin); her great grandchildren Ellie and Archer as well as her sibling Brian (Gail) and a number of nieces and nephews.
As per her wishes, cremation has occurred and a private, family only service will be held on December 14, 2023. If desired, donations may be made to the Salvation Army ( Donate to Salvation Army ) in her memory. Messages of Condolence may be left at www.hogle.ca
