The family announces with great sorrow, the peaceful passing of Fernande “Fern” LaBranche (née Caron) on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Extendicare Falconbridge in Sudbury, Ontario at the age of 94. She was born in Chelmsford, Ontario on July 21,1929 to Emilien and Georgiana Caron (née Lefebvre).
Fern is survived by her children, Jacques LaBranche and Louise LaBranche, granddaughter Christine Leech (Randy), great-grandson Matthew Seckman, siblings Jacqueline Lamothe (late Rhéal), Cyril Caron, Aline Paquette (late Gérard), Carmen Magno (late Mario), Denise Blanchette (Roland), and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Ronald “Ron” LaBranche, sisters Gertrude Toner (Paul Harrison, Joe), Jeannette Beauchamp (Bill), Gabrielle Levesque (Fernand), Noëlla Lafontaine (Roland), and brother Lionel Caron (Jeannine).
In her early 20’s, Fern left Sudbury to work as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse for indigenous children. Upon returning to Sudbury, she was instrumental in opening new branches of the Caisse Populaire Credit Union from 1952 – 1958. She met her husband, Ron, at a dance. They fell in love, married and had two children. Later they moved to the desert southwest, where she took pride in her Scottsdale, Arizona home. She cherished her time spent with family, playing the piano, and traveling in the comforts of their motorhomes.
She was spontaneous, and always ready for the next adventure. Truly a beautiful, intelligent woman with great wit and charm. She will be sadly missed by all.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury, ON, on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel and will be available via livestream CLICK HERE
