Gibson James Risk, age 81, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2023
with his wife of 55 years by his side.
Gibson was born on October 1, 1942 in Port Arthur, Ontario and grew up in Nipigon, Ontario. He started
working at a young age, spending most of his working years at Domtar/Norampac. Gibson met his wife,
Jeanette (nee Eliuk) in Nipigon in 1966. Gibson and Jeanette married in 1968 and raised their 3
daughters in Nipigon. Gibson was an avid fisherman, hunter, and camper, spending many summers at
Gathering Lake, and most recently captaining his pontoon boat at Sandstone Lake. Gibson retired from
work in 2000 and enjoyed more time camping with Jeanette and traveling to visit family across Canada
and USA, as well as vacationing in Mexico, the Caribbean, England and Scotland. Gibson was thrilled
with the birth of his first grandson Evan in 2005 and moved to Thunder Bay to be closer to him. The
addition of a granddaughter, Jordanne, and the birth of his second grandson Dexter in 2009, led to many
trips to Calgary. Gibson also loved to watch his sports – curling, baseball, hockey and, most importantly,
any sports his grandchildren were playing. Gibson was a quiet, hardworking, family man with a big heart
and an infectious laugh. He will be greatly missed.
Gibson leaves behind his wife Jeanette, daughters Rachel (Jamie) Adduono, Stacey, and Lora (Kevin)
Ronak; his grandchildren Jordanne (Spencer), Evan, and Dexter. He is also survived by his sisters Vianna,
Jolene, and Patricia (Ken) as well as his sisters-in-law Carole and Marilyn, brother-in-law Tom, numerous
nieces and nephews, and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth, his
sisters, Sibby and Maureena, and nephews, Raymond and Kenneth, great niece Kerri-Ann.
As per his wishes, there will be no formal funeral or service for Gibson. Our family will fondly remember
our husband, Dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. We love you Gibby!
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
