William Van Ness Greig passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on Sunday, January 22, 2023, in High River.
He was surrounded by family who loved him dearly. Van loved coffee with friends, both playing and watching sports, travelling, reading the Calgary Sun and watching the Patriots lose. He was passionate about many topics, like politics and Van’s dislike for Trudeau was one passion he wasn’t shy about expressing. He enjoyed his long and successful career with Shell Oil, which he dedicated over 35 years to. Those who knew Van, knew he spoke his mind and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His family will miss Van’s sense of humour, his one-liners and his many stories.
Van, or Punka (as many folks knew him by), will be dearly missed by the love of his life Margaret, daughters Calinda (Ron) and Lisa (Shannen), son Wes (Juliann), grandchildren Rinde (David), Boyd (Danielle), Jayde, McKayla (Kody) and Tyra (Mitchell), and his great-grandchildren Wyatt, Myles, Kole, Kael, Grayson and Isla, his sister Mariann and many cousins, aunts, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father John, mother Jean, brother Jan and sister Brenda.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Nanton Community Centre on Saturday, January 28, 2023 as a drop-in between 2 to 5 pm to honour Van.
Memorial donations in Van’s name can be made out to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
