KLEINS, Nancy Jane – 60, of Lockeport Nova Scotia, passed away at South Shore Regional Hospital on Friday, November 17, 2023. Born in Weston, Ontario, on January 11, 1963, she was the daughter to the late John Kleins and Diana Kleins (Roy).
She is survived by her husband Andrew Thompson, daughter Sarah Thompson, brothers Robert and Timothy Kleins. She is predeceased by her first husband Peter Macleod.
Nancy has lived a very full and exciting life, grew up in the Toronto area and moved to Montreal. She attended McGill & Concordia Universities, where she achieved her BA in International Political Science, Masters in Business Administration, and Diploma in Writing and Translation. Upon completing her studies, Nancy worked as an Executive Secretary in international trade, subsequently starting her own company, Tradewords, as a successful self-employed certified translator for 35 years. She was also a member of the Quebec and Nova Scotia professional translation organizations, OTTIAQ and ATINS. In 2013, Nancy followed her heart to the ocean town of Lockeport, NS, where as a child she had visited her maternal grandparents every summer. Together with her husband, they started up a cafe and B&B, Lockeport Landing, until taking semi-retirement to enjoy the sights and sounds from their oceanfront home.
In addition to her love of languages and words, Nancy traveled around the world, enjoyed many philosophical debates and was a huge foodie. She loved to experiment with new recipes, plan menus and of course share her love of food with others. Nancy loved to entertain and hosted many events, from small dinner parties with friends to huge banquets, ensuring everyone was welcome and well fed.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilsons’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. A celebration of her life will be held in the New Year. Donations in her memory may be made to Lockeport First Responders. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.huskilson.net
