Clare’s Obituary
BROPHY-AMIRAULT, Clare – Age 71. Born in Sandy Point, raised in Lockeport and happy to have made Saulnierville her home, Clare was the youngest of 3 children. She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Winifred; brother, Kai; and the love of her life, husband, Joe. She is survived by her son, Gaetan (Dani); daughter, Solange (Chester); grandchildren, Breanna, Payten & Lorène; brother, Larry (Rita); and sister-in-law, Ruth (Gustave), who was the sister she never had growing up.
Clare spent her career, more than 30 years, as an outpatient/emergency room RN at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital where she had the respect of her fellow colleagues and was known as Susie Smith to the patients who couldn’t be bothered to read her name tag. It was said that everyone was in good hands, patients and colleagues, if Clare was on-shift.
She was an avid baker, closet line dancer, gardener, seamstress and swimmer who loved to travel and took great joy in the personal and professional accomplishments of her children, family and close friends. Clare was particularly fond of spending time “babysitting» her grandchild, Lorène, who affectionately called her Mémère. She was a fiercely independent individual and “momma bear”, who had no time for foolishness despite her quick wit and dry sense of humor. Clare could always be counted on to be the voice of reason in tough situations while also bringing a bit of brevity into the mix. She loved Christmas and took considerable pride in decorating her house with multiple Christmas trees and countless decorations, this would take weeks.
Family would like to thank close friends and family for their unconditional support during these last few months as well as the doctors, nurses and support staff of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Halifax QE2 Infirmary and the Digby General Hospital.
As per her wishes, there will be no service or wake but close family and friends will gather at a later date to pay their respects. Donations can be made to Christmas Daddies.
