Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herbert (Herbie) Leland Nickerson born on August 16, 1947. He passed away peacefully at age 76 at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his battle he always tried to stay positive, and live his life to the fullest. Still going to his tree stand, he never gave up. Anyone who knew him knew that he had a big heart; he would give the shirt off of his back, always putting others ahead of himself. Even in his final days, he was still thinking of how he could help others. He loved to make people feel at home, and anyone who walked through his doors knew it. He loved to get on a good old yarn rather it be about hunting, fishing or his families roots and the good old days (sometimes turning into a good old row). He loved his family dearly and made sure they were cared for, he was the most loving husband, caring father, and the biggest role model as a grandfather. With him everyone was family. He would often call to check on different family members and made sure to let them know how much he loved them and ask what they were up to. He loved to cut wood, hunt, fish, and he especially loved lobstering. Every year the night before dumping day his nerves would get the best of him, and he would get sick just thinking about it. He never used an alarm clock he was always on deck getting up on time. Over the years he passed on his knowledge to his family, rather it be tying a knot, to making a wooden partridge trap, to shooting a gun, and so many more of his skills. For many years Herbie hunted from the camp in upper Clyde that he, his two brothers, and nephews built. In later years his favourite place to be was up Clyde, with his loving wife Linda at their cottage surrounded with family, friends, and his dog Bullet.
Herbert was the son of the late Leland Cliffton Nickerson of Woods Harbour and Laura Maude Nickerson (Malone) of Charlesville.
Herbie is survived by his loving wife Linda Nickerson(Symonds) of 58 years, Daughters;,Elizabeth Nickerson;Darlene Nickerson; Karen (Stephen) Nickerson Son; Leland (Trinda) Nickerson; Grandchildren;Thomas, Kempton(Rachel) Devin (Dayna) Dericka (Logan) Cole, Holden (Rebecca) Shale, Shanobie (Brandon) Loghan (Scott);Great grandchildren; Aleigha, Dawson Alex Paisley,Linden, Ivy; Sisters;Barbara(Laurie)Daine, Joyce(Terry)Nickerson, Rita Smith ;Sister-in-law; Gisele Nickerson ;many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Besides his parents, Herbert was predeceased by Brothers;Walter(Joyce)Nickerson, Leslie Nickerson ; Sisters; Mary(Bob)Forward, Ilene(Lee) Oikle , Gloria(Robie) Nickerson, Olive, Florence, Eleanor, Ruth, Brother in law; Lennie Smith, Son in law;Trent Brannen ,Grandson; Cole Nickerson
The family would like to take this time to thank; VON for going above and beyond, also the Red Cross,Barrington Lions Hall and the staff of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home,in Barrington.There will be no visitation as requested by Herbert himself. There will be a memorial service at the Woods Harbour Calvary Baptist Church Saturday November 11 at 2:00 pm. Family flowers only, Donations can be made to the Rosalin Nickerson care fund or Woods Harbour Calvary Baptist Church.
