Stubbings 2023 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles
On November 3, 2023 my fella Ken, Kenneth Vernon Stubbings, allowed his body to rest quietly and without suffering, with me by his side. He was 61.
Ken was born in Lindsay, Ontario on April 6, 1962. Not long after our marriage in 1985, we made Cobourg our adopted home and remained embedded in work, recreation, and community life here since that time.
Ken was a highly respected member of the Northumberland County staff for 35 years and 10 months (in Ken’s words). He rose to the position of Health Safety Emergency Risk Manager, a position he held for the past 20 years until his retirement at the end of 2022.
Ken was a master carver and an active member of the Northumberland Carvers for many years. His amazing works of art adorn the homes of many friends and family. As an accomplished runner, Ken completed 105 marathons (and several ultra marathons) breaking the challenging 3-hour barrier on many occasions. Carving and running were his two most significant passions. Ken was also an active volunteer in the community assisting with many Northumberland YMCA and running events. Ken never hesitated to lend a hand when he had spare time.
Ken was the devoted husband of Lynn, the “Papa” of Stinky (Pixie), loving son of the late Vernon and Betty Stubbings, cherished brother of Paul Lywood (Carrie), the late Linda (Peter Beer), and Cheryl (Wally Nugent). Lovingly remembered by the many in-laws, nieces, and nephews of the Stubbings and Perdue families.
Ken is dearly missed by all his work family at Northumberland County, fellow runners at the Northumberland Runners, fellow artists at Northumberland Carvers, and his many, many friends.
I offer my deepest gratitude for the incredible love, support and care from our family and friends. The medical team worked to provide Ken the best treatments and options. The compassion shown to both of our needs is appreciated beyond words. Dr. Mark Essak and Dr. Teresa Cheung have both given us so much comfort this year. They became so much more than our medical saviours; they became a part of our family. Their lead with his extraordinary care, coupled with Ken’s determination, allowed Ken and I to share precious quality time over the summer months.
Thank you, Ken. You were my person, my best friend, and the love of my life. It’s hard to imagine life without the guy I literally grew up with.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ken’s life with me at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg, Ontario. There will be an evening visitation on Tuesday November 7, 2023, from 6 pm to 9 pm, and the Celebration of Life will be at the Funeral Home on Wednesday November 8, 2023 at 11 a.m. I invite you to dress casually, as you would when you visited Ken at any time. Reception will follow at the Funeral Home Reception Centre with interment at Lent’s Cemetery.
Donations to Northumberland Hills Hospital, Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, Cook’s School Day Care Inc, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, love your people deeply! It seems like just a short time ago that I was that 14 year old girl (almost 15) heading out on my first date with that handsome 17 year old. Now at more than 44 years together, he’s still my very best friend and I wonder where the time went. It’s not a lie when you hear there’s never enough time. Cherish every moment.
