January 27, 1942 – January 17, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Isobel Mae Stadey of Calgary, AB announce her passing on January 17, 2023, at the age of 80 years.
Isobel (mom) was born in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, in 1942, born months early and only around 4 pounds, she was a natural fighter and a strong soul, destined to create an amazing legacy of family around her. Mom was proud of her accomplishment of the family she built. She often told us that all she ever wanted to be was a mom, a great mom. She worked proudly and tirelessly to
provide, support, and make a good life for us. She ruled with just enough spice to keep us all in line and a lot of love to ensure we wound up being compassionate people. Mom extended this love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren tenfold. She gave the gift of time to connect with them. She would sing, snuggle, read, draw, paint and attend their sporting events, cheering them on and being their biggest fan in the crowd. Over the years you would often find mom tending to her flowers in her garden. Last spring, she was so proud that she grew most of her flowers from seeds. Many of the photographs on her phone (aside from copious amounts of pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) are of her beautiful garden, she truly had a passion for creating a small sanctuary for herself through the spring and summer months. Many of her flowers were in her favorite colors, pink and purple. Mom also had an incredible creative side, she would knit, make floral arrangements and wreaths, and paint amazingly beautiful landscapes. Mom cherished her connection with her Irish roots, naturally coming by it as her mother immigrated to Canada in 1928 at the age of 22 from Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. Her Irish treasures are proudly displayed on her shelves; seashells she collected from the beach her mom once played on as a child, Irish books and literature, and an array of Irish music. In 2007, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit her mother’s homeland, traveling around the country and meeting the extended family who warmly welcomed her. Mom spoke so fondly about this trip. Oh, and we must mention, she made certain to attend the Blarney Castle to kiss the famous Blarney Stone!
Mom, it is only fitting to put this Irish Blessing here in your honor:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Our mom is survived by the three of us children, Rhonda Fisekci (Semih) of Calgary, AB, David Seaman (Theresa) of Barry, ON, and Krista Ryan (Scott) of Airdrie, AB; her eight grandchildren, Coskun (Vicky), Sera (Conor), Jamie, Parker, Kaleb, Donivan, Jake and Jaden; and her four great-grandchildren Ayla, Benny, Lochlan and Theo. Mom is also survived by her brothers Gordon of Brandon, MB, Wesley of Ignace, ON, and her sister Margaret of Thunder Bay, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, their families, and friends. Mom was predeceased by her father Wesley T. Stadey and mother Isobel T. Stadey (nee Kane); her sister Jean and five of her brothers, Gilbert ‘Gib’, George ‘Geordie’, John ‘Jack’, Tom and Ken ‘Sam’.
Dulcina Hospice is where mom spent her final weeks. Each person serving at DulcinaHospice are angels on earth and made this difficult journey so much easier to bear for her and us and we cannot thank them enough. There truly are no words for how impactful they were and how grateful we are. Because of this, it is asked that in place offlowers, for those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Dulcina Hospice,
www.covenantfoundation.ca/donate-today?mid=704, please select St. Marguerite Manor – Dulcina Hospice – Calgary, AB, when delegating where you would like your donation to be allocated.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li mom.
A Celebration of Life and Service will be planned for late spring. It was mom’s wish for her Service to happen when the flowers had bloomed, and the sun was able to warm our hearts. In the interim, we know that mom would love it if everyone raised a toast to her on January 27th, which would have been her 81st birthday.
