Dwaine Killen
1938-2023
Dwaine Killen, 84, of Hillsborough passed away
peacefully on October 17th, 2023 at the Dr. Georges L-Dumont
Hospital. Dwaine was born in Windsor, NS on December 30th,
1938 the son of the late Orick and Bessie
Killen.
Dwaine worked in Automotive Parts Sales at APM Ltd and last
at ACME Sales where he retired from. Dwaine had a very quiet
demeanor. He never seemed to get too excited about things
and was calm in most situations. This really helped him in
his life as he was active in his community. He was a
Councillor for the Village of Hillsborough for twelve years and was a
sports advocate while on Council. He loved sports, he was an
avid golfer and member of the Hillsborough Golf Course. His golf
passion started at age 16 on the Fundy Park course and
he still golfed in Hillsborough once or twice a week prior to
getting ill this summer. He also played hockey for years, he
could always be found at the Arena. He was well known at the
Arena as he refereed many hockey games. He
skated up until a couple years ago. He enjoyed bowling with
his wife Doris for almost 50 years in
the Hillsborough Mixed League. He was very
active with the Grey’s Island Cemetery having served on the
board for years. He was also the treasurer, key keeper and
maps guy for all who needed to know anything for the cemetery
they always called Dwaine. He had a huge lapel pin
collection and was very proud of his over 1500 pins
display.
His family was very important to him, Dwaine and his wife had
a small family whose love was abundant. His son Mark and
wife Beth, were not only his son and daughter-in-law, but good friends
and neighbours. Having lived side by side over the
years always looking out for each other. His
grandchildren were his pride and joy and he would do anything for
them. Dwaine was an inspiration to his
family.
You’re now at rest and know that you were always the best. We
love you so much and miss you every day!
He will be deeply missed by his son Mark (Beth) of
Hillsborough; his treasured grandchildren, Zachary (Sylvie) and
Abigail; brother, Ernie Killen of Annapolis Valley, NS and by several
nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by all his
golfing buddies and friends in the community.
He was predeceased by his wife, Doris; daughter
Natalie; sisters-in-law, Joyce Walters (Herb), RoseAnn Killen(Ernie)
and brother-in-law, Raymond Milton.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate his life will be held at the
Albert County Funeral Home on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 at 2:00pm
with Rev. Dean MacDonald officiating. Following the service the family
will be meeting for further sharing of memories and for some
refreshments. Interment will be in the Grey’s Island Cemetery,
Hillsborough, NB.
The family would like to say Thank You to the doctors and
nurses of the Oncology unit at the Dr. Georges L-Dumont Hospital for
their care and compassion.
For those who wish donations to the
Grey’s Island Cemetery or charity of the donor’s choice would
