James W. Rutherford
– Truro. It is with great sadness that the family of James
«Jim» Rutherford announce his passing on October 14, 2023 in
Truro at the age of 94.
Born in River Hebert,
Jim was a son of the late William and Dorothy (Light) Rutherford. He
grew up on a farm and worked hard for his grandparents and neighbours.
Like many rural Maritimers, he left for Ontario in the early 1950s,
where he worked at Trans-Canada Air Lines, then on the Avro Arrow
fighter jet project, followed by many years as a milkman and later in
the X-ray film department at Kodak Canada as a planner. As soon as he
retired, he returned to Nova Scotia, settling in Valley, near
Truro.
Jim leaves behind his
wife of 70 years, Mary (McKay); his sister, Dorothy Steeves,
Riverview, New Brunswick; three children, Leslie (Annette Keuning),
MacKay Siding; Linda Bischof (Gary), Quispamsis, New Brunswick;
Marilyn (Chris Marshall), Stillwater Lake; and numerous nieces and
nephews. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Cait, Jeff, Matthew,
Lindsay, Jared and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his sister, Queenie
Stonehouse; twin, Marjorie Skinner; and infant grandson, Alexander
Bischof.
The family wishes to
extend many thanks to the caring staff of Parkland, Truro and nurses
with VON.
A Memorial service
will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, October 20, at St. John’s
Anglican Church, 25 Church Street, Truro, The Reverend Lori Ramsey
officiating, followed by a reception. Webcasting of the service will
begin at 1:55 p.m. An interment of ashes ceremony will be held 11
a.m., on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in River Hebert Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church,
Truro, or the CNIB.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
