Obituary
Violet was born on May 1, 1943, in Spedden, AB. She was the second oldest of 8 siblings. She grew up on the farm at Garner Lake, where they would spend the summers selling worms and leaches to the local fisherman. She quickly learned this was not what she wanted to do. She would tell her dad that she had homework, so that she could go back to the house and spend hours in the kitchen with her mom or hide in the attic to read books.
Vi was an exceptional student. She attended the University of Alberta and completed a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics and English in record time by taking extra classes and summer school. Upon graduation she started her teaching career in Ashmont from 1963 to 1965, she wasn’t much older than her students. She moved on to St. Paul, Salmon Arm, Camrose and finally to Edson from 1968 to 1995 where she finished her teaching career. She continued as a substitute teacher until a few years ago, always bringing treats for the staff.
Vi and Keith met while teaching in Camrose. They were married on August 17, 1968. They relocated to Edson to open the brand-new Parkland Composite High School, where they spent countless hours getting the Foods and Industrial Arts labs set up just the way they wanted.
She was actively involved with Special Olympics and S.C.O.P.E. as a board member for numerous years.
Vi was always willing to try anything as evidenced by the numerous camping and fishing trips that they went on. Upon retirement, they were able to travel all over the world including Hawaii, New Zealand, Aruba, Palm Springs, New Orleans and her favorite, Graceland.
Vi was known for her love of teaching and her incredibly talented sewing and quilting skills. Her amazing baking skills were enjoyed by many (cinnamon buns and ginger snaps were some of our favorites).
She was also an avid curler, playing in numerous bonspiels with family and friends. If she wasn’t curling, she was either attending the Briers or staying up all hours of the night to watch it. Most of all, she was known for the love of her grandsons.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Keith of 55 years, daughter Tami and son Troy (Kerri) and their children Austin and Shawn; brothers Dennis Tchir, Michael Tchir; sisters Joanne (Johnny) Bodnar, Barb Tchir, Carolyn (John) Kennett and Lorraine Tchir; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Roman and Cassie, brother Marion and sister Dianne.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Edson Legion, Saturday October 21, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
