Edna Jane Wanakamik, born November 17, 1947 in Willet, ON, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a short, hard-fought battle with cancer.
Edna Jane was a beautiful woman, a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and community member. Edna leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Jim Wynn and her sons, Clinton (Logan, Riley, & Brayden) and Leroy (Trent & Miranda), grandsons Chris Jr. and Terry; sisters Victoria, Annette (Don) and brother Larry (Donna); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna worked in many places, the MNR, local restaurants, and Mattice Lake. She loved to cook, sew, and create. She was always the one to bring the Bannock and laughter to anything she attended. Her laugh was infectious, and she was so kind, welcoming anyone with a smile.
Edna is predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Josephine Wanakamik, her son Christopher Wanakamik, and many brothers, sisters Alex (Alice), Betty (Isadore), Marceline (Dennis), Charlotte (Ambrose), Ernie (Elaine), Victor (Jean), and Helen (Charlie). The family would like to thank the hospital staff and the PSW’s at Dilico NP, and Ashley and the leadership and Health Staff at Whitesand.
Visitation to take place at Sargent & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, September 28 from 9:00-10:30 am. Visitation in Armstrong to take place at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Armstrong Thursday, September 28 from 7:00-9:00 pm and Friday, September 29th from 9:00-11:00 am with a service to follow led by Father Gerry McDougall from 11:00-12:00 pm. Cremation will follow and interment will take place at a later date.
