Obituary
Nathaniel Albert Lee Landriault, 32, of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 of an accidental overdose after a long battle with addiction. He was born in Mission, B.C. on December 10, 1990. He grew up in Deroche/Mission/Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Nathan was predeceased by his father Albert Robert Landriault. He is survived by his mother, Jeannine Landriault, (sisters), Natalie and Elizabeth Landriault, Sharon McStay, Sandra Conaway, (brother) Ron Landriault, his precious fiancee Kathryn Palmantier and a very special niece Sophia as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and recovering members of the Lower Mainland.
Nathan had a heart of gold; anyone from his childhood or adult life could confirm. He had a smile that could launch a thousand ships. He was kind, funny, charismatic, selfless, loyal, and always tried to find the positive in any situation. In turn, doing his best to block out the negatives, which is where his addiction came into play. Drugs offered Nathan an escape from the many demons he faced throughout his life.
On September 2, 2023, he died from an accidental overdose on illicit fentanyl. He had been sober for 21 months.
Nathan got off to a rocky start. He was born three months early with a severe pyloric stenosis and was deemed a «failure to thrive» baby. He smiled his first beautiful smile upon waking from surgery at 9 months and has been a going concern since. He was a «climber» always atop the piano or fridge as a baby. He learned to read at 3, The Holy Bible and loved to dress up as a pioneer or cowboy and tend our vegetable garden, pets, chickens and make tree forts. He attended French schools and graduated from Mission Secondary, where he was involved with football, wrestling and badminton. He had many good friends, he loved everyone.
The last several years Nathan has been loved and supported by Wagner Hills Farm, Joshua House and Christian Life Assembly Recovery Church.
21 months ago Nathan committed to a new life and he really thrived. He started a job as a Lead Hand at Place-CreteSystems, and had just finished a faith-based course to counsel and mentor others. He went hiking every chance he got and enjoyed the gym. He found his niche sharing The Word and spreading his love of Christ. He baptized many locals and even his family members. Nathan loved spending his mornings in prayer, scripture study and connecting with friends. Most recently he proposed to the love of his life, Kathryn Palmantier. They were to be married next month.
His family would like to speak the truth about his death. Silence would mean Nathan’s death was in vain, but if one person’s life is saved by his story, we would tell it a million more times. We know the pain of his suffering. We know the pain of our own suffering as his family, and we know there are hundreds of other people here in our community suffering with substance use disorders or as loved ones to them. Speaking the truths (no matter the circumstances) surrounding the epidemic of drug use may be the difference between life and death for someone.
In honor of Nathan’s life, we ask that truth be spread in regards to this epidemic and awareness be raised.
Nathan will be laid to rest on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Hazlewood Cemetery in Abbotsford.
Nathaniel’’s life will be celebrated at CLA in the near future. TBA
