Obituary of Betty Ann Daigle
The Family of Betty Ann Daigle (Todd) regretfully announces her passing at the age of 84. Mom passed away peacefully at the EK Regional Hospital on Sunday September 10th after a short illness.
Betty leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years John, daughter Sherry Christensen (Fred), son Michael (Allison) and 3 loving grandchildren. Also 3 younger siblings Don Todd, Jean Gray and Lynn Mitchell.
Mom was born on a winters day (January 20, 1939) in Belcarres Saskatchewan. She moved with her family to a small farm Fruitvale BC in 1949. In the years following she showed calves at fall fairs, worked as a nanny for a doctor in Trail. She then worked at Carberry’s Flower Shop after Graduation.
Mom and dad were married in 1961 and resided in Kimberley until 1975 when the family moved to the Northwest Territories where there were many life experiences. In 1980 dad accepted a transfer to Castlegar which brought mom back to the west Kootenay area closer to her siblings. Mom and dad moved for retirement back to Kimberley in 1991 and enjoyed the wild spaces of the East Kootenay. Trips to Saskatchewan and Eastern Canada were taken to get in touch with family and roots. Mom enjoyed her time teaming up with dad as BC Parks campground hosts at Premier and Whiteswan Lakes. From all accounts mom was liked by young and old and took good care of kids by having treats or popcorn at the Whiteswan cabin. She also enjoyed and was dedicated to her volunteer job at the Marysville Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. More recently health issues kept them closer to town, but they enjoyed day trips and a hotdog roast beside a creek or lake. Mom liked to share the story of out-fishing dad at Whitetail Lake. Mom was a lover of dogs and sometimes would call us kids and ask for “dog time”.
The Family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all the Emergency and third floor doctors, nurses, care aids, physios, and other support staff for their care, compassion and support for mom during her two months stay.
There will be an informal celebration of life at the Kimberley Senior Hall (lower level of Centennial Hall) on September 30th from 1 – 3 pm. Please donate to the SPCA in leu of flowers.
John, Sherry (Fred, Shane and Chesley), Mike (Allison and Tyler).
