It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear brother and uncle, Blair Daniel MacNeil, age 64, on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Stevens Rest Home in North Sydney.
Born in Halifax on June 23, 1959, he was the son of the late John C. and Shirley (Merlin) MacNeil. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.
In his early years he worked at National Sea Products with his protective brothers. He was a gentle and hardworking person by nature. He enjoyed working along side some of the biggest guys at the plant and always pulled his weight on the job with a sense of humor.
Blair was a man of morals and principles, having a strong sense of right and wrong. Always helpful and kind to everyone. His amazing sense of humor and ability to make others laugh was truly a gift. His timing of a joke was on point and appropriate. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Blair was a storyteller and the news reporter at Stevens. The first one to read the daily paper and give all the residents the highlights during breakfast, especially the obituaries. In the evenings he would walk downtown to gather more news in the community. First stop was Brewers Dairy to chat up Joanne or Verna. Next stop was his regular table at Tim Hortons on Blower St. to enjoy his favorite coffee and socialize. Then returning home to share his stories with all the residents and staff.
The family is grateful to all the staff at Stevens Rest Home for making Blair feel so comfortable and loved. Many thanks to Kim, and especially his favourite sister-in-law Thelma (aka second Mom), Ann, Wendy, Jenny, Emily and Debbie. Many thanks to all the staff at Tim’s for being so kind to our brother over the years.
He is survived by his siblings; Donna (Joe) McNeil, Comox, BC, Kevin, John (Debbie), both in Fort McMurry AB, Judith Boutilier, North Bay, ON, Mary MacNeil, Truro, Natalie (Anthony) Marcucci, Barrie, ON, Allan, Sydney, Shaun (Mary), Little Bras d’Or. Also surviving are his beloved nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John and Shirley, he was also predeceased by his brother Wayne and sister Karen.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass for Blair will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 15, 2023, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception to follow at the North Sydney Legion, 16 Archibald Ave. In lieu of flowers a suggested donation to the Food Bank in North Sydney.
