It is with great sadness that the family of the late Annie Theresa Walsh (nee Byrne) of St. Brendan’s, announce her passing on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, Gander, NL, at the age of 85.
She is predeceased by her husband Raymond, her parents Nicholas and Bridget (nee Connors) Byrne, her young siblings brother John and sister Margaret, brothers Bernard, James (Bessie), John (Marguerite), sisters, Johanna (Isaac) Doyle, Rose (Nicholas) Furlong, Margaret (Harold) Gatherall, niece Andrea Gatherall, and in-laws Herbert (Josephine) Walsh, John Walsh, Marie (Raymond) Temple, Josephine (Cecil) Burke, William O’Rielly and Jim Day.
Leaving to mourn her sister Mary O’Rielly, sister-in laws Anne Day and Carmelita Walsh and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Annie was born and raised on St. Brendan’s where she lived most of her life. She taught school for a short time on the island and helped her husband Ray with the fishing. Annie will be remembered for her lemon meringue pies, her pans of squares, her dark fruit cakes and loaves of sweet bread which she made and often gifted to her family and friends, or donated as prizes for various fundraisers. She was kind and generous. She loved to knit, have a game of cards, bingo, or darts, and treasured her angels on earth – her cats.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Nightingale Manor Gander for their kind and loving care and friendship to Annie over the past couple of years. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre Emergency Department and Orthopedic Unit (Palliative Care) for their care and kindness.
Visitation will take place Monday, September 11th from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander, NL and from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church, St. Brendan’s, NL
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 12th at 11:00 a.m. from St. Gabriel’s Church on St. Brendan’s. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Brendan’s, NL.
Donations made be made in Annie’s memory to St. Gabriel’s Church, Nightingale Manor Recreation Department, or a charity of one’s choice.
