It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Alice M. Rideout of Marystown announces her passing. Alice passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at the age of 73.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her husband of 51 years, Tom; daughters, Denise Rideout (Launa) of Ottawa and Lisa Rideout of Paradise; grandchildren, Cole and Alexander Fisher; sisters, Theresa O’Reilly, Sadie Kelly (Patrick), Carrie Kelly, Florence Power (Patrick) and Joan Hodder (Paul), Yvonne Hemeon (Mike); brothers, Eugene Brushett and Jim Brushett (Mary); sisters-in-law, Alice Langmead (Bert), Helen Gaulton (Albert), Regina Coady (Ronald); brothers-in-law, Charles Rideout (Maxine), Tom McCullum, Roland Grandy; special friend Frances Murphy Stimpson; plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Annie & Charles Brushett; parents-in-law, Clara & Thomas Rideout; brothers, Patrick Brushett (Loretta), Lawrence Brushett (Regina) and Kevin Brushett; brothers-in-law, Patrick O’Reilly, Gerard Kelly, Randy Rideout; sisters-in-law, Clara White (George), Kathleen Pike (Randal), Bridie McCullum and Sharon Grandy.
Alice was a kind-hearted soul and a caregiver by nature. She completed the registered nursing assistant program and worked for many years in nursing in St. John’s. After returning to Marystown, Alice spent many years as a home-care provider. Her clients and their families always noted how compassionate she was. Even after retiring, Alice visited elderly and ill family and friends to lift their spirits.
She had a deep love for her family and found joy in the simple things, such as a butterfly or a beautiful sunset. Alice believed robins were a sign of good luck. When anyone she knew was applying for a job or waiting for good news, she would tell them she’d seen a robin that day and it meant things would work out fine for them. Alice developed friendships that lasted a lifetime and her kindness will always be remembered.
The Rideout Family will be accepting visitors at Wiseman’s Funeral Home in Marystown on

Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 from
10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Mass of Christian Burial for Alice will take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church – Marystown on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery – Marystown.
In Alice’s memory donations may be made to The Janeway Foundation, a charity of one’s choice or flowers gratefully accepted.
