Obituary
Atkinson, Leora Genevieve (Smith) – At the age of 91, passed away on August 26th at Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Truro, NS where she resided for the last 4 years of her life. Leora was born in Newellton, NS on December 24, 1931 to Thelbert and Genevieve Smith (Crowell), the oldest of eight children. Leora was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Freebert Atkinson. Leora is survived by her only child, Blanchard (Blanche) and grandchildren, Rhonda Fudge (Mike) and Amy Atkinson (Glen), great granddaughter, Jillian Fudge and step great grandson, Landon Keats. Leora is also survived by sisters, Susan Miller, Mable Thorburn (Wayne), Lois Caldwell, Ruth Nickerson and brother, Roger Smith (Lendora). Besides her parents, Leora was predeceased by her brother, Norman Smith and her sister, Thelma Stoddard. Leora lived the majority of her life in Clarks Harbour, NS and worked as a bookkeeper for her spouse’s business Freebert Atkinson’s Boatbuilding Ltd. After retiring Leora and Freebert moved to Beaverdam, NS and then to Barrington, NS. Shortly after Freebert’s death in 2016 she moved to Truro, NS to be near her son and daughter in law and resided at Cedarstone Enhanced Care until her death. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Cedarstone (Purdy Lane) for their wonderful care over the 4 years she was a resident and especially during her final days. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SPCA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 30th at 1pm at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, in Barrington NS.
