Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jake Burritt on August 23, 2023. He died peacefully at Athabasca Hospital with his wife of 65 years, Iris by his side.
Jake was pre-deceased by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children David (Jayne) Burritt, Linda (Ross) Dobson, and Daniel (Gail) Burritt and five grandsons Ian (Alison) Dobson, Kyle (Eda) Dobson, Colton (Jesslin) Burritt, Bryor Burritt, and Tanner Burritt.
Jake was born in Edmonton and moved to Athabasca in 1965 where he operated a sheet metal company with his brother Harry for many years before retiring in the community. Jake loved hockey and played goal for many years with the Athabasca Oldtimers Hockey team as volunteered for many years as a minor hockey coach in the community. Jake’s other passion was restoring vintage vehicles and he was an active member of the Athabasca Classic Cruisers Car Club!
Jake’s favorite place was at the Baptiste Lake cabin, fishing and boating and spending time with family and friends. He loved to tinker and build all sorts of things and enjoyed renovating their home and honing his skills as a tinsmith. Family was extremely important to Jake and he was very proud of his children. He was a generous, kind man and will be remembered fondly for his quick wit, ready smile and mischievous spirit! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and physicians at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre for taking such good care of Jake.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Athabasca Healthcare Auxiliary would be welcomed.
A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Athabasca Reformed Church with Pastor Al Plat officiating.
