It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of John Garfield Marsh on Sunday, January 15, 2023, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 1, 1946, in Sydney, he was a son of the late Frank and Winnifred (Youden) Marsh.
John spent many years as a heavy equipment operator and in his words, “Jack of all trades, but master of none!” John had a passion for life and adored his family. He was the life of the party and traditionally appeared with his guitar. Anyone that knew John knew his jokes. He loved the outdoors and always looked forward to his “hunting trips” with all the boys.
John is survived by his loving wife, Doreen (O’Callaghan); daughter, Tracy Spencer (Scott Clements), Howie Centre; sons, John Marsh (Katherine MacFarlane), Ancaster, ON, Troy (Tracy) Neal, Sydney, and Trevor Neal (Michelle Tortola), Sydney; grandchildren, Kyle, Frank, Madeleine, Brittney, Kyler, Jessica, Katelyn, Logan, Hailey and Ethan; one great-granddaughter, Rylee; and his lifelong partner in crime and best friend, Stan Dicks.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Madeleine (Pynn) Marsh; mother-in-law, Vera O’Callaghan; one sister; and seven brothers.
Visitation will take place in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. followed by a service in the chapel at 7 p.m. with Mr. Gary Grant officiating.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Heughan and Dr. Rodney McGory, as well as the staff of 3A, Day Surgery and An Cala Palliative Care in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Donations may be made to An Cala Palliative Care or the Cancer Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
