SKAARUP, BEATRICE LEA, 1923 – 2023, passed away peacefully at The Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville, NB on Friday, 18 August 2023.
Beatrice was born in Waterville, Carleton County, the daughter of the late Walter and Myrtle Estabrook. Beatrice was married to Aage Skaarup, who passed in 2011. She is survived by her three sons, Harold, Dale, Chris and their families which include seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Beatrice was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick and Bernard (Joe), and Katherine, and Wilhelmine, and has a surviving sister Gaynelle.
Beatrice joined her husband on his RCAF deployments at home and overseas from 1954 to 1974, including four years in Zweibrucken, Germany from 1959 to 1963. She was an accomplished traveler as she and her family camped from Denmark to Spain and later through much of the Canada and the USA, she raised her three sons in North Bay, Ontario, Gypsumville, Manitoba, Gander, Newfoundland, and Chatham, New Brunswick before she and Aage returned to the farm. She played piano and accordion and in later years the fiddle in performances across the province.
Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville on Monday, 21 August from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Upper Waterville Baptist Church on Tuesday, 22 August, followed by the Interment at Charleston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cleft Lip and Palate Society of New Brunswick. For donation information please check their website at the New Brunswick Cleft Palate Program.
