Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of treasured memories that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Hugh Joseph Yetman, of St. Mary’s, aged 79 years, who entered into eternal rest surrounded by love on August 17, 2023, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.
Predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth (2016), daughter Leona (2008), parents Leo & Imelda; brothers: Matthew, Leo and Edgar, sister Jose, parents-in-law Edward & Mary Rideout; brothers-in-law: Mike, Isaac and Walter and his furry companion Lady,
Left to mourn with grateful hearts for having been blessed with his love and his spirit are daughters: Daphne (Don), Michelle (Mike) and Karen, sons Hughie (Samantha) and Alex (Mona); grandchildren: Vanessa (Daniel), Andrew, DJ (Kayla), Sophie (Jordon), Alexa (Jonathan “Clifford”), Rebekka (Adam) and Braeden. Missing their “Big Pop” the most are his cherished great-grandchildren: Lucy, Darcie, Levi, Emberly and Liam – Big Pop’s heart and smile grew every time they were in his presence.
Also left with fond memories are his special friend Evelyn, sisters Annette (Keith) and Stacey (Peter), brothers Eddie (Hilda) and Karl; sisters-in-law: Juliette “Sis”, Theresa (Jerry) and Adelaide (Wayne); brothers-in-law: Ed (Audrey), Hilary (Shirley), John (Agnes), Hubert (Cathy), Martin (Debbie) and Jerome (Susan), his Godchild Gerard Lee and all their families, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will all cherish his life and the impact he made for years to come.
Dad taught us all so much by just being who he was. He showed us the importance of working hard, setting goals, keeping a promise, helping out where you can and giving back to the community. Above all else, he taught us about the positive impact that unconditional love for your children and grandchildren can have, despite whatever distance may separate you.
Although he was a man who carried many titles, his most precious were always Dad, Pop and, most especially, “Big Pop”. As a strong man of faith and pillar of the community, Dad exemplified what it meant to work hard, to care and provide for your family, to be a friend to all and mentor to many. His presence was larger than life and our gentle giant will live on through the memories we share and the little reminders of him that surround us.
The family wishes to thank the many nurses, doctors and staff at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital during his recent stay, as well as family physician Dr. Joshua Bragg.
Resting at Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s, at a time to be announced followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s. Burial to follow.
