George Harold Moore passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years old.
He was surrounded by the love of his wife Eleanor, family and dear friends.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor Moore of Castor, Nephews, George
Moore (Jill), John Moore (Denise), David Moore and niece Anne Crutchley
(Micheal), of Isle of Man. Brother in law Charles Chipchase, sister in law
Ruth Mohr (Richard) all of Drayton Valley and numerous nieces and
nephews across Alberta and British Columbia. He was predeceased by his
mother Catherine Quayle and father William Moore, and brothers Stanley
Moore and William Moore, all of Isle of Man.
George was born on July 30, 1930 in Ramsey, a small village on the north
east coast of the Isle of Man. At the age of 27 years old, he sought
adventure and his passage brought him to Canada. This is where he heard
that John and Catherine Blume were looking for a hired hand to help on
their farm outside of Castor. George thought he would see what supper
was like, to help him make the decision to stay on or not. It must have
been good as he remained employed there for 60 years.
On April 12, 1969 he married Eleanor and they settled on their farm east of
town. Here they grain farmed on the land and enjoyed his two Clydesdales
draft horses, Mindy and Scotty. In spare time, he took pride in refurbishing
era styled wagons and carts for the team to pull him and guests around the
farm. He was an active member with both the Canadian Hereford
Association and with the Castor United Church and Choir.
Many, many thank yous to the staff at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital,
Castor, Alberta for their constant care and love for George.
Funeral will take place at the Knox United Church in Castor, Alberta and
interment at the Castor Cemetery, luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers,
please make a donation to the charity of choice or the Alzheimer’s
Association.
