Brunekreeft, Henri (July 16, 1955 – August 11, 2023)
It is with sadness that we the family wish to announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved father, brother, uncle and friend, Henri Brunekreeft, a resident of Courtland, after a courageous battle with illness, on August 11th, 2023, at VON Sakura House Hospice, Woodstock, at the age of 68. Henri was born Tillsonburg, to his late parents Gerrit and Aaltje (Vandenhoorn) Brunekreeft. Henri could be described as a farm boy, as a builder, logger, and a jack-of-all-trades type of handyman. Henri could fix or build anything- from a baby’s crib to a house. Henri nurtured and loved his children, and he enjoyed teaching life skills on the baseball diamond, where he was a dedicated coach and player. Henri enjoyed spending time outdoors, cooking over bonfires, camping, and socializing. Henri was a former member of the Courtland Lions Club. Henri is lovingly remembered by his children: Nicholas Brunekreeft, of Courtland; Amber-Lea Brunekreeft, of Tillsonburg; Kristopher Brunekreeft, of Tillsonburg. Also survived by two sisters Alie (husband George Ryken), Sally (husband Alex Szucs), by his sister-in-law Shirley Brunekreeft, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his siblings and in-laws: Geurt (“George”) Brunekreeft; Hendrikje (“Hennie”) & Jan (“John”) Ryken; Elbarta (“Bep”) & Henry (“Hank”) Snellen; Maas Brunekreeft.
In keeping with Henri’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A public graveside service will be held in the Tillsonburg Cemetery, Monday, August 21st, at 11:00 a.m., led by Albert Snellen. All are invited to attend a Celebration of Henri’s Life, which will be held at the pavilion, located in the Courtland Lion’s Community Park (329 Main Street of Courtland), on Friday, August 18th, between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Everyone who knew Henri is invited to share favourite memories, photos, express personal condolences or contribute memorial donations to “Walsingham Senators Minor Baseball” (by cheque, or E-transfer to paywsmb@hotmail.com) or to “VON Oxford” (to benefit Sakura House Hospice), via Henri’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J.
