CUVIELLO, Vincenzo “Vince” –
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vincenzo “Vince” Cuviello on July 30th, 2023, at home with family by his side at the age of 76. Loving husband and best friend of Ruth for 49 years. Beloved father of Danny (Josie), Ann-Marie (Steve) and David (Mila). Adored Nonno of Milana, Vincent, Aria, Rianna, Max, Remy, Ellie and Jack. Dear brother of Joseph (Ida) Cuviello, and brother-in-law of Frank, Louie (Nitsa), Vince (Lynn), Mary (Steve), Sylvia (Tim). Cherished son-in-law of Anna Stranges. Uncle Vince’s quirky sense of humour and joke telling will be fondly remembered by his 12 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Donata and Annunziata Cuviello, and father-in-law Gennaro Stranges.
Vince was born 1946 in San Fele, Potenza Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1965, at 18 years old and went to night school at NFCVI. Vince began working with his uncles Nick and Vito, and under their wings he learned and became a proficient and licensed barber. He eventually secured a position at Oneida, a position he held for 28 years, working his way up to a tool-and-die fitter, where he meticulously crafted silverware. In 1999, he moved on to work for the City of Niagara Falls, where he took much pride in keeping the parks throughout the city pristine.
In 1972 he met the love of his life, Ruth Stranges, and they were married two years later, and soon began starting their family together. He loved to make homemade sopprasata (2-time sopprasata contest winner in Port Colborne), red wine, and tomato sauce. Vince enjoyed his time dancing, golfing, bowling in his Monday night league for 20 years, and playing card games like cribbage and euchre. Vince especially loved time spent driving his royal blue 1968 Camaro, as well looking after and tending to his various properties with his right-hand man, and brother, Joseph. Vince was very handy, and blessed with a green thumb, he enjoyed puttering around his and his children’s homes fixing anything that needed attention, and tending to his vegetable garden and fig tree.
His biggest pride and joy were his 8 grandchildren. Being the dedicated taxi driver that Nonno’s usually are, Vince loved bringing his grandkids to Tim Hortons for sprinkle donuts, taking them out for lunch, and having them for sleepovers, and he always made sure to be his own cheering section at their soccer and hockey games, and dance recitals. When his own children were little, one of their fondest memories was going to Chaplin’s on Friday nights for all you can eat Fish-n-Chips, where Vince would joke with his children about who could eat the most that particular night.
His best friend and loving wife of 49 years took the very best care of Vince for the last 4 years during his long and courageous battle. She was by his side, always tending to his every need, along with his three children, and brother. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Yelamanchili, ParaMed, and the palliative care team for all your support and care for Vince.
The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, ON on Friday August 4th, 2023 between 2pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Vince is to be held on Saturday August 5th, 2023 at 11am, at Our Lady of the Scapular Church 6557 Thorold Stone Rd, Niagara Falls, ON, with the rite of committal at Fairview Cemetery to follow. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation, can make them to the Walker Family Cancer Centre and/or Niagara Health Foundation.
